When it comes to planning your engagement session, fur babies are ALWAYS welcome!  As a fellow dog mom, I know you can never have enough photos with your animals. Your furry pal is part of your story and you both will remember him or her being part of this exciting chapter of your lives for years to come. I Encourage you to incorporate your dog into your photo session, here are a few tips for bringing them along:

  1. ARRIVE EARLY - You’ll want to get to the photoshoot location a little early so that your dog can scope out the area and burn a little energy before we start taking pictures. Once your dog is acclimated with the new location, hopefully they will be a little less interested in the things surrounding them and can be relaxed for your pictures.

  2. DON’T FORGET THE TOYS AND TREATS - In order for your dog to be the perfect little model, you’ll want to have some of their favorite treats and toys on hand. A toy that makes noise or squeaks would draw their attention towards the camera for the perfect shot.

  3. BRING A FRIEND - Don't hesitate to bring a friend or family member to your shoot as the D.D, and by that I mean designated dog-sitter. Having another person there to hold up toys and feed your furry friend treats is helpful and fun! Once you're ready for some pictures of just the two of you, your friend can play with your dog or take them on a short walk staying close by. This allows the two of you to focus on each other and get shots that show your love and excitement.

  4. ACCESSORIES - Bringing accessories for your dog to your shoot is always appreciated. I’m a sucker for a dog in a bandana, cute collar, or even a sweater! Accessories are never required, but they make for a beautiful addition to your photos. Consider going simple with your colors like blacks, beiges, and ivory. Your dog will look adorable and ready for his or her close up!

  5. EMBRACE THE CHAOS - Your dog is just as excited as the two of you, so don’t worry if they give slobbery kisses and jump around a bunch. I will be photographing it all and there is nothing more beautiful than candid photos with your love and fur baby. Trust me, the craziness of bringing your dog to your shoot can make for some of your favorite pictures and forever memories.

Nothing fills my heart more than meeting my couples’ dogs and giving them photos that allow them to keep this chapter of their lives fur-ever. I hope these 5 tips help you prepare for your engagement session with your dog!
